Our first northern airline experience……
So this morning we woke up and headed out to the airport. It took us probably about 45 minutes to get through check-in. We had 7 pieces of luggage in total. (6 pieces and the dog kennel). They all ended up being overweight! The weights ranged anywhere from 60lbs up to 85lbs. We ended up having to have all of our luggage go through over-sized checked baggage. We made it through the rest of the process with very little excitement….Thankfully!
I was very happy to see that Cisco survived the flight without incident! No drool, no vomit, no diarrhea! Now to see how she fares tomorrow. Our flight today was 2 hours, tomorrow we’re facing an 8 hour flight…
After we landed Etienne went to the Calm Air counter to ask a few questions. It was here that our luck changed……He found out that any over-weight luggage probably wouldn’t make our flight. It was booked full up and they couldn’t guarantee that our luggage would make it. This sucks because there is only 1 flight to Chesterfield per day and they don’t fly on weekends. So our baggage would become “priority” luggage and they would fly it as the room was available. Etienne was told that we should have our luggage within a week! I’ll be honest, our stress levels have been pretty high lately and our fuses have been running short. Etienne was SCARED to death to have to come and tell me this little piece of information. He was afraid that I’d run back to the counter and punch out the employee! He was happy to find out that I reacted the opposite….Really, what can you do? It’s out of our control….I just said that we’d figure it out…..
What we decided was to buy a couple of back-packs and pack more in our carry-on luggage. We figure that 2 of our suitcases are now within the 50 pound allowance. This should be enough for us to survive for a week or so until the rest of our luggage arrives……
We still don’t know what’s going to happen with all of our house-hold effects. There were talks that it would be trucked to Thompson and they would try to catch the last barge of the year. If this happens, we will receive all of our household items, our annual food order and our quad all on the same day!! OMG, where am I going to put all the boxes to unpack?!?! I guess we’ll have to figure something out. They are estimating the arrival of the barge sometime at the end of september. So we will have about a month with what we packed in our suitcases….whenever those arrive…..
Well it’s late and i’m exhausted….Time to go to bed and see what tomorrow brings…..Stay tuned

Hope you guys have a good flight tomorrow…all of it is stressful, but soon you will be settled and it won’t matter anymore! Enjoy your arrival to Chester!
I think we have all had those experiences!!
We once duct taped 4 quad tires together as a piece of luggage. Oh the people in Edmonton airport were definitely looking at us!
Good luck up north!
