Who wants Muktaq???

******Caution!! Pictures in this post are graphic******

Muktaq {muk-tah}: noun. Whale meat (inuktitut)

Last week Etienne phoned me at home to tell me that there were Whales in the bay and the whole town was going crazy trying to hunt them! I stuck my head out the back door to see boats driving around like crazy. I heard a shot. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) I wasn’t able to see anything. We don’t have our quad here yet and by the time I walked all the way over to “the point” I would have missed everything. I wasn’t too upset as I was sure that within the next 2 years the Whales would come back again. (more…)

My first lesson learned in the north!

Today I took the dog outside today during low tide. While we were out enjoying the outside the plane flew directly over us. The dog thought?? that is was a very big bird (She loves to chase birds) and decided to chase the plane as it was coming in for a landing. Unfortunately I didn’t have our video camera with me, so I trekked back to the house to get it.

Hondas, Fishing and Picnicing…..

Today we had really good weather, so a few of us loaded up onto our honda’s and drove out to a couple hundred meters off “the end of the road”. We spent most of our afternoon there fishing and relaxing. Pete and Father Greg caught a total of 9 fish…. 6 Landlocked Arctic Char and 2 Trout and 1 that Pete wasn’t able to hold onto….The lucky bugger got away!! Afterwards, we roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. It was a really good afternoon.
