Hondas, Fishing and Picnicing…..

September 7th, 2009 Carly Leave a comment Go to comments

Today we had really good weather, so a few of us loaded up onto our honda’s and drove out to a couple hundred meters off “the end of the road”. We spent most of our afternoon there fishing and relaxing. Pete and Father Greg caught a total of 9 fish…. 6 Landlocked Arctic Char and 2 Trout and 1 that Pete wasn’t able to hold onto….The lucky bugger got away!! Afterwards, we roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. It was a really good afternoon.

Father Greg spent most of his time picking berries. He picked enough to fill 2 glass jars. It was amazing to see the amount of berries around there…No one was quite sure what they were called, but yes they are safe to eat. Father Greg did find a few blueberries as well. Maybe next time we’ll bring a container to take some home with us and maybe make a pie or jam with them!

As we were getting ready to leave, we started talking about the peacefulness of the north. We were able to look around and see nothing but nature….No power lines, no telephone poles, no cell towers…NOTHING! It’s nice to know that we were the only ones there. It’s so quiet and peaceful. I think I could get used to this kind of life :-)
