The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Good: Our Barge arrived yesterday!! SO EXCITING

The Bad: A good portion of my Diet Pepsi froze and exploded

The Ugly: The temper tantrum I threw when I saw all of my ruined pop.

So the pop……I was so disgusted to find out that the only pop that froze was my Diet Pepsi!! I can drink the pop that Etienne bought, but regular pop gives me heartburn, so I drink it with consequences. I guess if I get desperate enough……

Once we have everything unloaded in the house we quickly took all the pop into the bathtub. The cans were still hissing and exploding. You could hear them exploding throughout the house.  Last night we noticed that pop was all over the bathroom door, mirror, lights…etc…It’s everywhere!! It’s not going to be fun to clean that up.

By the time everything was unloaded it was almost 8pm. Since it was so late all we did was went through everything to make sure there was nothing else leaking and ruined. It was almost midnight by the time we finally went to bed. Lucky Etienne had to work this morning, unlucky me had to unpack and organize everything myself. I honestly didn’t think i’d ever finish it. When Etienne got home for lunch I hadn’t even thought about making anything, so he was left to fend for himself! Poor Etienne!! lol. As he was eating lunch, he said to me that he felt like he was single again. Eating a tuna sandwich with cheezies and pop for lunch! I guess you have to let them realize how good they have it once in a while, right? By late afternoon I had a good handle on everything. As I sit here writing this (it’s 5pm) there is only the disaster left in the bathtub and at the front door. Not too bad if I say so myself.

We found out today that had the barge been only 1 day later, it would have not made it to shore as there was too much ice today. Wow, I’m now just thankful that our stuff made it. I’m excited to finally (hopefully) take out our Polaris RzR out for a quick spin tonight.

When we first put in our barge order, it was due to arrive in Chester by the end of September. We weren’t too worried about anything freezing. Well, as time went on, the arrival date was getting farther and farther away. From what we’ve heard they had a tug break down, causing a significant delay. A couple weeks ago we had called to inquire what exactly happens if the barge never arrives, or if our stuff arrives spoiled. Basically there’s no insurance on the items and you end up swallowing the costs of the damage. So needless to say we won’t be ordering anything on the last barge of the year.

Well I guess I should go and make supper. I don’t know what he might do if he came home from work to find no supper!! lol. Now, what to make?? So many choices….

Whoa guys, how many years are you planning to stay with that much toilet paper lol? At least it won’t go bad. Let me just tell you I’m still using my freaking zip lock bags down south (we moved them with us) that I got on a barge order from two years ago. By year 3 of ordering a sealift we learned that no one ever needs 12Kgs of brown sugar lol. Good luck with all your stuff, it’s a little like Christmas isn’t it?

Last week we bought enough toilet paper to last 3-4 years. Good thing is it doesn’t go bad.

Hey you can buy insurance on your goods I bought it on my barge stuff and thankfully didn’t need it. But I really didn’t get enough stuff next year I will stock up more for sure. Hope you two are doing well.

When we found out that the barge was going to be late we called the company that did up our barge order for us and we asked about insurance. He informed us that you can buy insurance but the only thing that it actually covers is if the ship were to sink or damage caused by mishandling of the goods by the company. Damage due to weather conditions isn’t covered in the insurance.

It’s funny, I was in Iraq in 2003, and when the temperature got too hot, the diet soda was also the first to explode! The regular soda was fine though.
