Winter weather

During this past weekend we had some bad weather.

Winds reached up to 80km’s/hr. There was also some snowfall with that as well. Those are the days that i’m very thankful we don’t have highways to drive on. For the most part I spent the weekend relaxing inside. After the weather cleared we were left with a lot of snow out the front door. Because of all the winds, there were some pretty big drifts.

Overall, the weather has actually been fairly mild. The temperatures seem to fluctuate quite a bit. One day it’s only -5 and light winds, then next day it’s -21 with strong winds. I wore my new parka out the other day when it was -25 with light winds. I only wore a t-shirt underneath and I was toasty warm. I’m sure when the weather plummets, I will be more than warm enough with the parka and the appropriate layers underneath!

I am definitely starting to notice how short the days are getting. Currently we’re seeing the sunrise close to 9am and it is setting before 3pm. I haven’t noticed any side effects that are too major physically or emotionally, just that i’m more tired during the day. We bought a SAD light a little while ago. Not sure if we’ll use it right away, but i’m sure as the days get a little shorter, we’ll probably find use for it. We are far enough out of the Arctic circle that we won’t see true 24 hour darkness here.

Below are pictures we took today out front. The dog is absolutely loving the snow!! We have actually finally been able to put the booties on her, and all 4 have stayed on. After about 5 minutes outside she doesn’t seem to be bothered by them anymore. Thank goodness!!

About a week ago we also took the Polaris out for a little drive. We didn’t go far as the sun was setting quickly. It was still nice to get out and use it. I’m looking forward to using it many more times thisĀ  year.

Does anyone do cross country skiing?

Not that we’ve have seen or heard. The terrain here is very rocky, would make it hard to ski on. I have no idea about snow shoeing.

Is the heater working better now. Does it stay warm inside the Polaris??

Yes. Etienne fixed it. When the dealership put it all together they forgot to take the “cap” off one of the tubes. Good thing it was an easy fix. It now warms up. It won’t ever fully warm the cab, but it’ll help take the edge off of the coldness to the fingers and toes. It should also help with fog on the windows.
