So it’s finally official…..we are Nunavut residents. It’s only taken us just over 3 months to finally get everything in order and completed, but it is all done. I am just waiting to receive my official Driver’s Licence. I currently have their “temporary” licence. Which in fact is my receipt of payment!! lol. I would love to be asked for my driver’s licence down south and see the look on the police officer’s face when I hand him a till tape receipt!

What a process it turned out to be.

When we first got here, I realized that I didn’t bring the copy of my registration. We have put both of our vehicles into storage for the 2 years we are going to be up here. I always leave my registration and insurance in my glove box. So I phoned the alberta registries office and asked them to print me off another copy. Well, it is apparently more complicated than that. When the lady from the office finally called me back, she was quite rude. I asked a simple question and she proceeded to give me an ear full over the phone! I couldn’t believe it. She was explaining to me that they will require my vehicle to be present when registering it. So, I explained that our vehicles will not be leaving Alberta and they won’t be driven in Nunavut – EVER. I also explained that you cannot simply get in your vehicle and drive to Nunavut, she just had no clue. She then continued to lecture me and tell me that they are doing it wrong. That you in fact need your vehicle there. I finally got fed up and said “You know what, I don’t do their job, I am just doing what I was told” I so wanted to say more, but I bit my tongue and hung up. Some people!! Once that was over,  I faxed a copy of my insurance and ID to my mom and then she had to go to a registry office and get me a copy of my registration. She then had to mail it back to me. I was then able to take it all to the Hamlet office. Once they ordered and received the “2011″ stickers I was able to get my fancy new licence plate. I can’t wait to drive around Alberta with Nunavut Licence Plates!! Etienne seems to think they might get stolen.  We’ve talked about welding them onto our vehicle! lol….Just kidding.

I can’t believe we have to turn around and do it all over again in less than 2 years!! ugh…the joys of moving around provinces. At least back down south it will be so much easier.
