Our first Northern Christmas

We were both sad that we weren’t able to spend the holidays with our family and friends.  I do have to admit that I loved the slow paced, relaxed Christmas we celebrated here. No busy shopping malls, no Christmas music playing since October, no running from here to there to see everyone that is important to us.

Etienne worked Christmas Eve day, so I spent it cleaning. I know, not very exciting, but it was nice to know that I was able to Celebrate Christmas in a clean house. We invited one of our friends over for dinner and I roasted a chicken. It was a very nice, low-key evening.

Even though it was Christmas day, there is still work to be done. So Etienne had to work a few hours in the morning. We were finally able to open our gifts around 10:30.   Our families totally spoiled us this year. We are all prepared for a long, cold winter. We received a tonne of books, DVD’s and even Pictionary.

For a while, I have said that I wanted to start scrapbooking our experiences up here. I was given a wide variety of wonderful scrapbooking stuff. Now, I definitely need to get off my butt and start. I have never done it before, so if anyone has any tips, suggestions or words of wisdom, I will graciously accept them!

Cisco even got a couple of presents. One on them was an edible Christmas Card! Thanks Jack!

After gift opening, we were initially going to head over to the Naja Isabelle home for a Christmas lunch. Since Etienne and I had been up most of the night for work, we decided to just hang out at home. We are helping take care of a neighbors dog while they are on holidays. I went over and picked her up and let her and Cisco play outside for a while. It was a gorgeous day out. Clear blue skies, sunny and only -24ºc. Once they were done, we brought them in and relaxed for a bit.

Etienne bought me Mario Brothers Wii for Christmas so we decided to try it out. All I have to say is that it is totally addictive. It’s a great game cause we both play together. No one has to sit around waiting to get a turn. We ended up playing right to the point where we were due to head out for Christmas dinner.

We then went next door for turkey dinner. The night wouldn’t be complete without a little bit more Wii. Everyone took their turn at Bowling. It was very entertaining.

Instead of the typical Boxing Day shopping, we spent the day playing Wii. That’s right, we spent the entire day playing. All in all, it was a wonderful Christmas this year. I don’t even think I put on the typical 10 pounds. It was nice not to have all those holiday temptations. I think I could get used to this kind of Christmas :) .

Love the edible card! I do digital not paper scrapbooking but if you want layout ideas there are lots on scrapgirls.com. They have a newsletter that they send you every day (if you sign up) and it always has 3-4 pages you can use for inspiration.
