It’s been a long time coming!

Well, well, well… Look who decided to show itself properly: good old aurora borealis.

I finally got a chance to snap a few photos. They’re not the best but I’m sure I’ll have the opportunity to take some more while we’re up here. They were moving very quickly so they are somewhat blurry and not as defined as I wanted them to be. All in all, they did turn out OK. It’s too bad that Carly wasn’t here to see them. (Yes, I do know how to work a keyboard and type up a post when I have to ;-) )  Here’s my favorite.

Aurora Borealis

If any other northerners have tips on how to get the best photos, a comment is always appreciated!

I still can’t believe that I missed the first “real” northern lights we’ve had in Chester!! Thanks for the photo though :)

    See you soon!

I subscribe to a photography newsletter and after only being up North for two weeks, one of the topics was “How to Shoot the Northern Lights.” Here’s the link!

Oh I’ve got some tips, make sure it’s not too windy and your camera doesn’t blow over on it’s tripod (true story). Also take them without the dog running around, mine always wrecked my long exposures, sniffing the camera or running into the tripod lol. But a more serious tip, I always tried to get a point of interest in the photo, like a building or person, otherwise they start looking like just green blobs. This one is really great though, looks like you’ve got the right exposure! Great job.

Yes…the dog. She was being annoying the night of the fireworks. She would pace on the back porch making the whole structure shake. She ended up inside the house real quick! The only thing I forgot about this photo is to adjust the aperture. I only adjusted the shutter speed. I might’ve had better results had I used a more appropriate aperture. Oh well, next time! Thanks for the tips.
