Take a look at where I went
This past week I was invited by one of the teachers to go out on the land with him and couple teachers and students. These are days that I am happy that I don’t work, allowing me to experience as much of the north that I can while we are living here. As much as I wished Etienne was able to come with me, I was really glad I was able to go. He’s limited with the distance he can go, so we haven’t been that far away from town. This day we went farther than I have been before. The land around Chester is quite flat, but where we went had quite a bit more hills. It was very pretty. The weather was fantastic. Just above zero. It was so enjoyable to go out and not have to be wearing 4 different layers. The only downfall is how wet most of us got. The snow was melting so as soon as it hit your clothing it soaked you. I think my left mitt weighed an extra 3 pounds with all the water. Good thing it was warm and my hands didn’t get cold. If we go out again, I think I am going to wear my raincoat instead of my parka!
I was amazed at how much snow is still up here. Since it’s been warm for a little while here, it is starting to get quite soft. We ended up getting stuck trying to tow the Komatik up a hill.It was then that I finally was able to drive a snowmachine! Since we don’t have one, I haven’t been able to actually drive. I’m always passenger. Even though I only drove it for about 30 seconds, it still was a lot of fun!! I can’t wait to be able to take out our Honda whenever I want and just drive around. I’m still trying to convince Etienne to buy a used snowmachine for next winter! Wish me luck
After we drove around for a while, we stopped for a quick bite to eat. I didn’t get a chance to take a lot of pictures of all the beautiful scenery, but I did take a few when we stopped to eat.
Just before our trip south, Etienne bought a GPS for the camera. I kinda rolled my eyes when he told me he was buying it, but now that we have it, I think it’s the coolest thing ever. We use Aperture 3 as our photo program and with that we are able to map out where we were. I have posted a map showing exactly where we stopped to eat. Hopefully next time I will be able to stop and take pictures throughout our trip, showing exactly where we were.

That’s awesome!!! I’m pretty jealous you got to go out that far and I’m glad to hear that you didn’t need that many layers. I still probably would have worn too many socks.

It must have been an interesting day. It’s snowing here in Montreal today by the way.

Pretty cool. How many Km. did you do? Do the locals find the spring to be MUCH earlier than usual or just a bit?

Very cool, I love the overhead of where you went to. I can’t believe the GPS part, that is amazing….wait until Rich hears about that. LOL
