and the winner is…..
This past weekend was the fishing derby and the judging for largest fish was yesterday evening. Etienne was asked to help with judging. I was impressed with the size of fish that were brought in. The largest fish was around 39 inches long. After all the fish were brought in and measured, one of the teachers wanted to cut open the larger fish to see if he could find any smaller “fish” inside of them. He cut few open. One had just a skeleton of a fish, the second had nothing and the third must have just ate as it had a full fish that had just started to be digested. A couple of the fish that he cut open also had eggs. I’ve never seen fish eggs before, so that was really cool. A lot of the kids that were hanging around all took a bit to eat. I don’t think I would be able to do that, but they seemed to really enjoy them.
If you don’t want to see pictures of fish being gutted then I probably wouldn’t look at most of the pictures on this post.

Quite amazing. Specially the “fish within the fish”. It’s surprising how big the “eaten” fish is. What kind of fish were caught?

First of all, I don’t imagine any of these fish will be eaten after lying around outside the refrigerator or am I wrong there.
It never occurred to me that fish eggs would all be connected like that.
I love the first picture where you only see the feet of two people. I presume they were jumping and are not hanging from hooks…

The contest was for lake trout. Char is supposedly not in season right now. They are quite small.

I heard that not too many people eat the fish from the derby but they weren’t laying there for very long and a lot were frozen. I don’t think that they would have spoiled.
As for the two kids, they were sitting on a ledge, hence the feet in there air

Dave would love it up there, Trout, Char he would say YUMMY ! ! ! He is going to BC in a week salmon fishing. Maybe we will still have some left when you guys come down again and you can try freshly frozen salmon. I wondered why Carly said to buy you all that fishing gear and there was no pole on the list. But from the other blog I see why. You just use sticks. Cheaper! ! !
