Life Adventures in the Canadian Arctic

One of the reasons I love it up here….

The other night I convinced Etienne to drive a short ways out of town to watch the sunset. Currently it is setting around 10pm. I figured now was the time to go and see it since the sun is going to continue to set later and later. Even though it was quite chilly out, we still were able to enjoy the beauty of the sun setting. I am still trying to convince him to go and see the sun rise…..that is going to take a little more work or time. Currently the sun is rising around 3:30am! Maybe I will have more luck in early fall when it is rising at a more decent time.

The days are going to continue to get longer and longer until it reaches the longest day of the year,  June 21st. Then it will start to shorten again. Just like in the winter, we are out of the arctic circle so we won’t have the true 24 hours of daylight. I have noticed the effects of the increase of daylight on my body. Normally I’m tired and ready for bed around 10pm, and now it’s getting closer to midnight. I’m hoping that it doesn’t affect it anymore. We might have to start closing our blinds early to “trick” our bodies into thinking it’s darker than it really is.

Here are a few pictures of the sun setting.

Closing the blinds is the way to go. Otherwise you’re busy cleaning your house or something at 1130pm. I love the light season, not everyone agrees but I don’t have problems sleeping in the light which is half the battle.
