Is it that time already?

I can’t believe that school is out for another year. This past weekend our neighbors had a dinner for a few people in town who are leaving. This time of year a lot of people leave for the summer. Some are leaving for good (moving to other communities, moving down south, etc), and some are just going south for the summer holidays. There is going to be a lot of change during the summer and into the next year. We’re sad to see people leave, but we’re also excited to see how the dynamics change with the new people that are coming. There are also a few exciting things that I am looking forward to this summer as well. I have a girlfriend coming to visit for a week and I have been invited to go on a kayaking trip. I have never been kayaking before, so it will definitely be an experience! I really enjoy that there always seems to be something to do here.

This weekend we drove out to a few places close to town to see the floe edge. It is definitely starting to get really close. Soon the snow machines will be put away and we will see a lot of water and hondas. Since we drove around yesterday and took pictures of the floe edge, we decided that we didn’t need to bring a camera with us today. I know, I know, I should have learned my lesson by now, but unfortunately I haven’t. We stopped at one point along the way and ended up seeing a few seals. One was quite close. I convinced (guilted) Etienne into driving back home to get our camera so we could have a few pictures. By the time he went home and back again the closest seal had gone down the breathing hole. Needless to say, Etienne wasn’t too happy. The rest of us found it quite amusing though. We did manage to get a couple decent pictures of the other seals.

Guilt!!! :D If you don’t want to bring the DSLR you should just bring along the point and shoot. :) Nevertheless, you’ve gotten some good shots so all is not lost.

Just bring your iPhone. At least it’s useful for photos even if there is no cellular service.

Some are cabins – People in town will build a cabin out of town – it gives them a place to go for some peace and quiet – Some of the other buildings are wire cages to hold drying meat. This prevents animals from getting to it.

We will spend a day or so practicing (with the kids) the rolls and stuff before we actually head out on our adventure! Yes, it is Christy that is coming – We will probably look at coming back south in November – There is still so much to do in Sept, we’d rather come out when there’s not much going on in town

If you come in November you might be hear for the birth of baby girl Dussault Pelletier. That would be great.

The water must be pretty cold for doing kayak rolls. Do you have a dry suit?
