What the dog found….

Yesterday I took Cisco outside to play for a bit and while she was wandering around the rocks she came across a bird…..I thought for a second she was actually going to catch it! It got away though. After she chased the bird, she came back to where she found it and started sniffing around.  I went over to see what she had found…..and this is what I saw.

I don’t know much about birds, I just hope that Cisco didn’t scare the bird so bad that it won’t come back to its eggs.  Does anyone know what kind of bird’s eggs they are?

I guess it’s a good thing that Cisco didn’t catch the bird! My guess would be ostrich. Oooooh! Wait, dinosaur eggs.

The male is black and white and the female is greyish. It looks like some type of duck.

Possibly Long-tailed Duck, although I’d expect to see more down than that at the nest. Check out this post for some photos, although there are better photos of the male a couple of posts later, on a post about Red-throated Loons.
