Careful what you wish for!!!

The other night, Etienne and I were out on our nightly walk with the dog and I asked him what he thought Cisco would do if she ever caught one of the many things she so loves to chase! (Birds, rabbit, siksik, etc) Neither of us really had an idea, we ultimately came down to the fact that she would probably just play with it for a little while and then leave it alone. Well……..Tonight we discovered exactly what she would do!! As we were walking, Etienne turned around to see our dog running towards us with a Siksik in her mouth!! I turned around at the time that Etienne told her to drop it and saw it flopping around on the ground. Well, this is where the city girl in me came out….I had a mini freak out! lol. I won’t go into details at how silly I probably looked jumping around like an idiot!! I eventually had enough of watching it suffer, so I told the dog to just go and do with it what she needed to. So, Cisco ran back and picked it up. I couldn’t watch, so I turned around and kept walking.  A little while later, we saw her run by us with nothing in her mouth. We looked back to find it laying (dead) on the road. I guess we were right that she’d get bored and just leave it. She apparently didn’t find it appetizing to eat! This is definitely something that I could have lived without seeing. I just can’t look at Cisco the same anymore….(Just kidding!). Needless to say Cisco’s new nickname is, Killer!

Unbelievable. But what I want to know is how Etienne reacted? Remember the mouse?

Nothing like the mouse story that you overexagerated so much :-P

It was just wilderness, the law of the jungle (er…tundra I guess)…

I would have been right there with you with a major freak out and then I probably would have cried, feeling so bad for the poor thing. But really cudos for Cisco actually catching it I would assume they are pretty fast.

Wow!!! I’ve only seen two dogs in town actually chase down and kill a siksik, and they worked as a team… apparently Cisco is a one-dog-killing-machine! I’ll tell Siku to be nicer to her when they meet up again:)

Yes sik siks drive the dogs crazy but just doing what comes naturally. I have two dogs, a Siberian Dysis and lab/husky Nanuq from Arviat. The summer of 07 was in Rankin and both dogs would find a sik-sik hole digging in tandem gleefully for half and hour, animal usually long gone. Only ” prize” ever got was a lemming. Thanks for your post.
