Chester: July 7, 2010
……….
I promise you that I took this picture this morning just before 11am! If you are wondering, yes, that is ice on the bay! I know that up here it takes longer for the ice to break up, melt and disappear for another season, but really, July and it’s still around? I can’t say that I’m not a little jealous when I read posts like this one – If you look at the date, that was back in June! There is also this one – They already had a fuel ship visit their community. There definitely aren’t any ships coming here in the near future. Oh, I almost forgot about this one – Another fuel ship that arrived back in June. These were from communities that are all farther north than us – Pangnirtung, Cape Dorset and Iqaluit. Lindsay wrote this post about Kugaaruk and it makes me feel a little bit better – There is still ice around! Every morning I look out to see if it is still lingering around. I’m anxious to see when it will actually disappear. We’ve heard that the first barge is due to arrive at the end of this month? Will the ice be gone by then? lol. I guess time will tell.

Would you prefer 33 degrees and 45% humidity. I am dripping. On top of this, they are in the process of re-doing our patio and alleys around the pool so we can’t even swim until they go, around 5. These poor guys are really working hard in full sunlight shoveling and lifting 15 pound paving stones…

Is it normally still icy there in July or is this a strange year? Just curious.
Thanks for the link by the way!

I remember when I got into Baker Lake the first time a year ago… We flew over the lake and there were still large sections of ice.

One good blow from the west wind should help. In the past, we used to have a poll (no prizes, though) with a date and time the ice at the bay will go. Mission Lake was a different story as it was the landing lake before the airport/runway was built. Chester was more populated then, with the MOT families and others like the Grey Nuns, etc.

With the weather we have down here (going to be 35C tomorrow), I’m almost jealous of your ice ;o)

Maybe the weather’s waiting to warm up for when we return in August:P…. I hope you enjoy some good “melt” soon so that Cisco can enjoy some water time!
