Stupid Recalls and Men’s Big Feet!
While Etienne and I were out looking at the icebergs a couple weeks ago (see here). I noticed that my left foot was a little wet.
I wasn’t too worried as we were walking in water that was a bit deep. I figured it was just water that splashed into my boot making my heel feel a tad damp. After we got back in the house, I took my foot out and sure enough it was wet. We thought that was odd, so we looked at my boot and guess what?? There was a crack in it!!! Needless to say, I was a little disappointed. I love those boots!
Since the boots weren’t cheap, we figured there had to be a warranty on them. Sure enough, there was a 1 year warranty and it was still good for a couple more days. Etienne phoned the store that we bought them from and they said that there was actually a recall on the boots. I won’t bore you with the long story, and all the phone calls we made, and the different stores and people we had to talk to. The final verdict was that yes, the boots had been recalled. They have redesigned the model and currently they don’t have women’s sizes. My feet are too small and they don’t make a man’s boot small enough to fit me! BOOO!! So now I have to find a different brand of boot. I don’t think I’m going to find something that I love as much as my lovely red boots!! Anyone have any suggestions on a heavy duty rubber boot? Has to be warm to -40ºc. We haven’t started our hunt just yet, I’m still going through the grieving process! lol.
So, Good-Bye Red Boots!!

Are you gonna be ok?

You NEED red boots so it would be easier to find you, should you wander too far from home. Is there a manufacturer’s name on the boots? If so, you could email them direct and bypass the retailers. Tell them you would be happy if you could get just one boot.

That sucks…I think those boots are awesome!!!!! (you know, except for the leaking part!)

Maybe you can have the crack repaired, like they do with pool liners. They do it with heat.

Try Cabellas for boots. I bought my pair there for the trip I took to Iqaluit a few years ago. Really enjoy your blog, keep it up.

try this link Carly!

They have red boots, patterned boots, plain boots….you name it, but probably not wintery ones. Check it out though, they are pretty cool. I’ve been looking for a pair of cool ones for camping and haven’t found any in Red Deer yet. May have to order from this site.

I agree with Dick above maybe if you go directly to the manufacturer, since they were a recall, they might send you another pair.

I thought I would be the smart one so I did a google search for “Red Arctic Rubber Boots”. So what came up? — a picture of you in your red boots! Then there was the guy that caught his boot in a boat propeller. Probably, he has one good boot for sale. I think you had better order the smallest men’s size that is available and buy extra socks — nice and “toasty warm” for the winter!

I just found boots called BOG BOOTS… interesting as they say they are rated for cold temperatures??? I’m sad your red boots are being retired since I was hoping to steal your source and get some for myself!

Hello, I’m new here but thought I’d throw in my two cents on the boots. I have Muck Boots and they are amazing! They go to -40 and feel like you’re walking on air. It’s doesn’t look like they have red right now but they do have blue, purple, and pink. Go to http://www.muckbootcompany.com/women/outdoor-sporting/Pages/ArcticSportLimitedEdition.aspx
I’m thinking they’d be good for up there (well, I hope so at least since I’m taking mine up when I move next month). Cheers!
