Hatched!

We have definitely seen a lot of birds nests and eggs this year.

The one thing I haven’t seen, up until yesterday, was evidence that the eggs actually hatched into baby birds. There is a very small birds nest on the wire mesh around the stairs on our place. Mama bird has been sitting on 4 eggs. Yesterday Etienne told me that one of them hatched. We had a look and sure enough, there was a teeny tiny baby bird. It couldn’t have been more than a day or so old. This was probably one of the coolest things I’ve seen.

It looks like the eggs are laying on a very soft duvet of some kind. Do you know what type of bird they are? Robins lay blue eggs but I’m sure you don’t have robins up there. What size is the mother bird?

OMG that is the creepiest thing I have seen. Those eyes give me the heebie jeebies. Well so does the picture where it looks like its neck is broken and its fur has been plucked out in patches. Post more pictures when the birds are cute. ;) Other than that, it is pretty freakin’ cool.
