I just wanted to write one last post as the end of the year approaches. 2011 has been a year of change for us as we have moved on to other adventures.

This then officially concludes the updating of The Arctic Post. We will keep it up and running for a few more years as it might give information about the Arctic to people unfamiliar with what happens there.

We would like thank everyone that has made our Northern experience an amazing one and hopefully we will be back one day to live in the Arctic once again.

However, 5 years later, she is still the same. I’m not sure if it’s that she’s a picky eater or just messy. What she does is, grabs a mouthful of food, dumps it on the floor and then picks through the pieces she wants to eat. I don’t understand?? All the food came from the same bag of dog food. However, to her, they must smell/taste different. When she’s done eating there is always a pile of food on the floor. The only time she will eat this is if her food dish is empty and she’s still hungry.

This is what we see everyday!!

I know that we had agreed that I wouldn’t make any impulse purchases at the Northern but I couldn’t keep my hands off this amazing deal. I had promised the manager that once he brought the price down to $1.00 I would buy it. He finally did. So here it is….. at a whooping 95% discount. The most amazing remote control in the world….just a bit cumbersome.

Well I’m a few days late, but things have been busy here this past week. If you were watching the polls during the voting round you would have noticed that we (as well as Babies and Bulldogs) definitely were giving Townie Bastard a run for his money for Best Blog during most of it.

In the end we took second place next to him. I was actually quite pleased with how well we did. I didn’t think we had a chance being up against him. Congrats to you Townie! You deserve it!

The winner for Best New Blog went to M&T in Nunavut. I haven’t had the opportunity to read this blog yet. There is always so many popping up it’s hard to keep up. I will definitely have to head over there and have a look. I do regularly read a couple of the other nominees for this category, so I know it was up against some really good competition! Congrats to you!

Best Blog Post winner was Babies and Bulldogs. This is another blog that I read all the time. I know there were only two nominees in this category, but the win is still well deserved. She has a wonderful blog that is definitely worth reading.

Also a huge THANK YOU for Clare for once again hosting the Nunies! It really is a great opportunity for the all northern bloggers. It also lets all of us that follow the northern blogs discover more exciting ones.

Even though we won’t be living in the Great White North this time next year, I do look forward to seeing how the 2011 Nunies turn out. This is definitely something I feel needs to continue. So please Clare, host the Nunies again next year.

The categories are the same as last year, Best New Blog, Best Blog and Best Blog post. There are a lot of good northern blogs out there. Last year we won for “Best New Blog”. Needless to say we don’t qualify for this category this year. I in no way think ours is the Best Blog out there. Please have a look at the other blogs and nominate for your favourite.
I know I don’t write very often on the blog but I figured that I would write a little something today.

I consider myself more like the person that just takes care of the form of the blog and Carly takes care of the contents. Today, I decided that it was time to refresh the look and feel of the blog. A while ago, I found a theme that I liked and modified it to satisfy the criteria I had for this update. I made it wider, changed the background striping (thanks Mike) and made it easier to change the banner photographs. Hopefully they’ll change more often.

Feel free to comment to let us know what you think of this new design and if anything should be changed.

I believe I have mentioned in past posts that I am a sponsor for a child in Thailand.

About six years ago, a girlfriend of mine was travelling through Australia when she came across some information at a church she was at, about sponsoring a child. She sent out an email to a bunch of people with information about sponsoring a child. At that time, it was something I’ve always been interested in doing but just didn’t know which organization to go through. There are so many stories that your money doesn’t actually go to a child. I wanted to make sure that my money goes to where it’s needed. She said that it seemed quite reputable, so I decided to go for it. After talking to her about it, we thought it would be an amazing experience to be able to go and visit the children we ended up sponsoring. So we decided that we would sponsor a child from Thailand and that we would plan to take a trip to meet them.

In September of 2005 we boarded a plane heading for Thailand. We were able to meet each of our sponsor children. It was an absolutely amazing trip. I wish that we would have kept a blog about our experiences…..Anyways, on to the whole point of this post. A couple days ago I received a letter from Compassion Canada stating that my sponsor child and his family have moved to another location in Thailand, and where he is living there is no Compassion Representative. I have to admit that I was quite bummed out about this information. Even though I only received about 3 letters/year, they were something that I always looked forward to receiving. He was finally old enough to write the letters himself. I even received pictures that he drew himself. I have thought about the idea of going back to Thailand to visit him just before he turned 18 and I wouldn’t sponsor him anymore. Now this has all been taken away. They told me that I could send one last letter to him. What exactly do you write in that letter? They also said that they are in the process of selecting another child for my consideration. I don’t know if I can sponsor a child right away. It’s kinda like losing a pet, you feel guilty getting another one right away. I’m sure by the time I receive the information of that child, I will be ready to sign on with another child. I would really like to be able to visit this other child, but who knows if that will be a possibility. Tara, you up for another trip to Thailand??? lol.
